Letter from the editor – June 2024

Summer is here at last, and with it we bring you this month’s paper, filled with ideas and expertise from our columnists, competitions, advertising and, of course, lots of local news!

You can read about the Surrey Awards, which Rosalind and I attended in May. The event was hosted by Surrey Rocks magazine, and held at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher – it was a fabulous evening which recognised some of the county’s amazing businesses.

Our former MP Claire Coutinho writes in light of the PM’s election announcement, Caterham Rotary Club reveals its writing competition winners, East Surrey Dial-a-Ride tells us its recent good news, and our What’s On pages have a whole host of events and activities going on across the district in June.

Our Spotlight feature focuses on the staff and students of de Stafford School in Caterham, who have raised more than £2,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices during their activity-filled charity week – well done!

We’ve got not one, but two competitions for you this month. The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle has now officially started its season of shows for all ages, and you could win a family ticket. And Nutfield Priory Hotel and Spa are giving away a table for four at their Father’s Day barbeque, so make sure you enter them both!

If you are planning your holidays, Kim from KC Travels tells us about a dream trip which takes in a Tanzania safari and the beaches of Zanzibar. Farmer Patrick brings us all the news from the farm, while Chantal from Champ Consultants explains the Flat Rate Scheme for VAT: an article which I have found very useful!

As always, thank you so much for picking up our paper. Rosalind and I work extremely hard each month to create this free 24-page community paper for you all. We’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas and stories: email newsdesk@tandridgeindependent.com.

See you in July!
