Brave a barefoot walk this half-term at Godstone Farm

Do you dare to bare? This is what Godstone Farm is inviting visitors to do this May half-term (25 May – 2 June) as it stages an all-new ‘barefoot walk’ experience! Kick-off those wellies, shake-off those socks, and experience the wonders of nature in bare-footed bliss as part of Godstone Farm’s Nature Explorer’s Week.

The barefoot walk is an all-round sensory experience, reminding us of the importance of reconnecting with nature on a tactile and physical level. There have been many studies into the sensory benefits of going barefoot, especially for children, including helping to build balance and coordination skills.

Continuing on the theme of exploring nature, there are a host of other activities for children to do during the week, such as nature painting and even making their own mini worm farms! Armed with a transparent cup and soil, children can observe how worms burrow, making patterns which aerate the soil and how their casting (worm poo!) can enrich the soil with nutrients to support plant growth. It’s no wonder they are known as ‘ecosystem engineers’.

Our Nature Explorer’s Week might inspire budding David Attenboroughs to make a larger earthworm farm at home and observe how they have the ability to regenerate their entire bodies, often living between four and eight years!
