Letter from the editor – May 2024

Welcome to the Tandridge Independent. Here we are, already in May – is it just me, or is 2024 going faster than previous years?! It seems crazy that yet another half-term is on its way: it won’t be long and we’ll be heading into the summer holidays once again…

Talking of summer holidays, if, like me, you’ve started dreaming of sun, sand and sightseeing, why not get in touch with our fabulous columnists Kim and Katharine from Travel Smarter? They are full of ideas for all kinds of amazing holidays, and can take the pressure off by organising everything for you. They also want to tell you why they became independent travel agents (believe me, the perks sound fantastic) – so, if you’re looking for a change of career, make sure you have a read: it may well be something you could be doing too!

I’d like to welcome our new column, Property Experts, to the paper. Suzie Viner, senior valuer at  Rayners Town and Country, will be bringing you the latest updates from the property market on a quarterly basis and, this month, offers some great advice on how to market your home.

Our reporter Matilda Gladwell brings you the story of the Caterham Rotarian who has just completed his 500th parkrun, along with an update on the incredible Zac Knight who is running every day to raise money for Young Epilepsy. Aaron Sugg reports on the award-winning Whyteleafe Community Hub, and Rosalind Brookman catches up with teenager motor racing sensation Mikey Porter.

As usual, we have got a brilliant competition for you. Sugarmamas Cake Shop in Caterham is giving away FOUR delicious goodies to two lucky winners…What are you waiting for? Keep an eye on our Instagram page for entry details – good luck!

Thank you once again for reading and supporting us. We are a really small team and each month we strive to provide you with a free 24-page community newspaper, which we hope you enjoy. Please let us know what your favourite articles and features are and if you have a story you’d like to tell, or suggestions for something we could include, get in touch! newsdesk@tandridgeindependent.com

See you next month.
