Advertorial – Right at Home Croydon to Caterham

My name is Hakeem Anjorin, and I am the managing director of Right at Home Croydon to Caterham.

Right at Home is a provider of care in the home services, sometimes known as domiciliary care.

I spent many years in the corporate sector of IT project management before the care world found me. Firstly, through the voluntary sector, I helped to mediate neighbourhood disputes, mentor young adults and arrange Christmas Day lunch for 2,000 children and young adults. The satisfaction I gained from helping others led me to opening Right at Home Croydon to Caterham in Addiscombe in 2015.

In 2021, we opened an additional office on Station Avenue in Caterham Valley, which allowed us to be closer to our carers and clients living in the Tandridge District, including Caterham, Warlingham, Whyteleafe and Farleigh.

Right at Home can look after anyone over the age of eighteen, as long as they have been assessed as safe to be supported in their own home. Specialising in supporting clients living with dementia, MS and Parkinsons, as well as people who have had a stroke and those who need help for mobility issues, our team of over 40 carers, plus admin staff, will help you or your loved one to remain independently at home.

Your care visit will start with the familiar and friendly face of your regular carer. All our team live locally and drive, so they are able to arrive on time and stay for the full duration of the booked visit. We work in small teams to ensure consistency of care.

Our carers can support you on an hourly basis with daily activities in your home, such as washing, dressing and personal care, medication assistance, preparing and cooking meals and encouraging you to eat and drink. We do light housework, including bathroom and kitchen cleaning, vacuuming, bed changing, laundry and ironing. We can also help you with errands, such as shopping, and accompany you to appointments or on outings.

We also provide a live-in care service, whereby a carer stays in the client’s home. This enables our care and companionship to be available around the clock, with the added security of the carer being there during the night in case of emergencies.

We have high standards for our carers, and select only those who are empathetic, patient and excellent communicators. They must pass our face-to-face induction training, which includes becoming a Dementia Friend. Enhanced DBS checks (police and regulatory) are completed, and three satisfactory references verified, before a carer can meet any of our clients. Our ‘no stranger’ policy means that new carers shadow an experienced carer when they first meet clients.

We are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for the provision of personal care and medication assistance. This means we are independently scrutinised to ensure we are meeting the legal, ethical and standards in delivering and managing care, through regular CQC inspections. On our last inspection we were awarded Outstanding for being Well Led.

The inspector said, ‘The ethos of the service and the caring, empathic attitude and approach of staff mean people receive care that is empowering, outstanding and encourages them to live their best lives.”

Our carers use a secure app which holds written records of all our care visits, allowing our office team to review and audit each one as soon as it is completed, to check the care outcomes are met and the correct standards of record keeping are being maintained. Family members also have access to the app, enabling them to read the visit notes.

We pride ourselves on being a community-focused company so, as part of British Heart Foundation Heart Month and Valentine’s Day, we are holding an event full of fun, creativity, awareness and fundraising on Monday, 12 February in our Caterham office for everybody to take part in.

To find out more about our services, please call 01883 460 376 or pop into our office at 5 Station Avenue, Caterham Valley, CR3 6LB.
