Letter from the editor – March 2024

We are already in March, and listening to the birds sing as I write this confirms we are well and truly into spring.

As some of you may already know, spontanaeity is one of my core traits and February saw me take one of my sons on a whirlwind five-day trip to Canada to see family, friends and to fulfil his dream of seeing the Toronto Raptors play basketball at the Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto. Work hard, play hard is what I live by and we did just that while making lots of memories.

As always, this month’s paper is brimming with news from across the district, as well as lots of recommended local places and events to visit for Easter fun! And, alongside our regular columnists, I’m delighted to welcome our new ones: Kim Cooper and Katharine Plunkett join us from Smarter Travel in Oxted, bringing us monthly travelling insights and ideas. Sue Corrance  tells us about Girlguiding in Tandridge, and Hakeem Anjorin and his team from Right at Home in Caterham Valley have launched their Care in your Community column, which focuses on domiciliary care for adults living in their own homes.

Our deputy editor Rosalind Brookman has been visiting residents across the community and brings you a spread of stories, including the Godstone Litter Angels, the opening of Blanchman’s Farm all-abilities trackway, the Young Carers Action Day, and many more. She also brings us an update from the horrific rat infestation in Whyteleafe.

There is, once again, the opportunity for children to enter Caterham Rotary’s writing competition: the winner will also get to see his letter published in the paper and on our website.

Our competition this month is a fabulous Sunday lunch for two, courtesy of Nutfield Priory. Just drop us an email or follow us on our socials to enter, it really is as simple as that!

Until next month, happy reading!
