This month we would like to introduce you to our March Presenter in the Spotlight, Peter Rubin, his show is on Friday’s from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, we asked him the following questions:

What is your show called and can you tell us more about it?

It’s called the PR Rockshow, playing a mix of classic rock and sounds from new, lesser known artists. I play a selection of Rock, Blues and Prog Rock. No musical snobbery allowed! I also promote live music when possible!

How long have you been radio presenter, and what got you started?

I did my first radio show with pirate station, Radio Caroline, out in the North Sea, way back in 1977. I used to perform on the Radio Caroline road show, and it was a natural progression onto the ship and radio broadcasting. In terms of desire, it was watching Led Zeppelin at Chislehurst Caves that started the Dee jaying bug, aged 14. Alan ‘Fluff’ Freeman trained me at Capital Radio and that was it, I never wanted to do anything else! I went on to work with numerous pirate stations such as Raiders FM and Pipeline Radio.

Who has been the best artist or band you have seen live?

Led Zeppelin or Heart! Amazing musicians and some of the people I have been lucky enough to meet and interview. Both Zeppelin and Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart have influenced millions with their music!

If you could meet anyone alive or dead who would it be and why?

Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart because they consistently produce magical music and are beautiful people and great fun to be with.

What’s your earliest memory of music, and the first album or single you bought?

Watching Led Zeppelin live at Chislehurst Caves in 1974 and buying ‘The Man who Sold the World album by David Bowie in 1971.

Apart from Ridge Radio what do you like to do in your spare time?

Obviously, listening to new music and watching new bands! I am a member Of the Chartered Institute of Journalists and write and publish articles both musical and otherwise, for example, The Gig Guide (London & South East). I also read Arthurian tarot cards and books on Arthurian and Celtic mysticism. I am currently writing an Arthurian fantasy novel and children’s short stories. Also, I enjoy watching films from every genre.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A footballer, radio presenter and a writer, well, achieving two out of three is not bad.

What is your fantasy holiday destination and why?

Arthurian Britain because I wish to meet Arthur, Merlin, etc. And find out about the first introduction of a moral code by rulers in Britain, moving away from the ‘Might is Right’ credo.

What TV series have you recently binge watched?

Game of Thrones.

Finally, what advice would you give someone wishing to become a presenter on Ridge Radio?

Be professional! Have self-belief and confidence in yourself, without which you will struggle! Don’t copy other presenters’ styles, try to develop your own! Learn from the best if possible. Most importantly, enjoy it and have fun!

Ridge Radio are always looking for presenters, if you would like to present a radio show, email Andy Mac at andy@ridgeradio.co.uk for more information.
